How to Prepare Your Kids for a Family Photoshoot (Without the Meltdowns)

A relaxed family photoshoot with kids is genuinely possible, and a bit of prep goes a long way. Here's what actually helps.
Before the day
Talk about it like something fun, not a chore. Kids pick up on stress, so keep it light.
Let them help pick their own outfit (within reason). They'll feel more like themselves in photos they chose.
Book around nap times, not through them. A well rested toddler makes everyone's life easier.
Skip anything brand new on the day itself. New shoes rub, new clothes itch, and neither helps with smiling.
On the day
Bring snacks. Always bring snacks.
Arrive a few minutes early so nobody's rushed before we've even started.
Don't over coach the "say cheese" smile. The best shots usually come from playing, not posing.
Let siblings be siblings. A bit of chasing or silliness usually photographs better than a forced group pose.
If it all goes wrong anyway
Some days a nap gets missed or a meltdown happens right on cue, and that's genuinely fine. I've photographed plenty of sessions with tears five minutes in and smiles five minutes later. My job is to work with your family as it actually is on the day, not to chase a picture perfect moment that doesn't exist.
If you're ready to book a session, you can see the current family packages on the Book Online page.
