Spring and summer are both brilliant times of year for a family photoshoot, so it's not always obvious which one to pick. If you're trying to decide, here's what each season tends to offer and a few things worth thinking about before you book.

Why spring works so well

Spring gives you fresh greenery, blossom, and a softer, gentler light that's kind to little ones who aren't used to being outside for long stretches. It's also a lovely time to book if you want your family photos ready before the busier summer months roll in.

Why summer is worth considering

Summer means longer evenings and more flexibility with timing, plus that warm, golden light in the hour or so before sunset that so many families love. If your children are off school for the holidays, it can also be easier to find a date that suits everyone.

So, which season should you choose

There's no right or wrong answer here. Think about how your family copes with warmer or cooler weather, when you'd like the finished photos in hand, and which look you're drawn to more, soft and fresh or warm and golden. Either way, you can't really go wrong.
